Lenni at her Mezzaluna exhibit

Artist's Statement

I came to quilting after seeing the Whitney Exhibition of Amish quilts in the early 70’s. The quilts were hung just like the modern art paintings regularly shown there. This exhibition changed my life and was a turning point in my artistic pursuits. Over the years my work has evolved from traditionally inspired designs to a more collage-like sensibility.

My subject matter and themes tend to be based on humor, sparked by a word or phrase or a silly idea. My thinking now focuses on the use of fabric in a more personal way. I now let the fabric and the quilt itself direct the outcome, rather than trying to create a predetermined design or image.
